INSERT - 2019
Insert, where to begin? This original idea was to not name the album or the tracks and allow the listener to "Insert" their own title - [INSERT NAME HERE] would have been the unofficial title allowing listener interaction with the track names. The tracks would have been numbered with no title. However throughout the process of production, I found myself giving the tracks names, which I liked, and that was that. One of the tracks, I did not have a name for, got saved as "Insert 6" as it was, at that point, the 6th track in progress, you can find out more about that track further down this page.
Initially 13 tracks were pencilled in for the album, until my good friends at @weatnurecords were putting together a Techno compilation to which I contributed. Check out track 7 for more info.
As for the artwork, the initial design was very minimal, plain sleeve with just 2 square brackets placed several characters apart - [ ] and of course Breezy in the bottom right. Once the original concept was ditched a change of tack was required. The artwork now features a disc being inserted into some kind of drive, in these times of downloads & streaming, something we might not see too much of in the future?

1. Where's August gone?: The opening track is is about the best time ever. The one time in your life where you can look back in fondness, with happiness and truly say "It can't get any better than this" It is a reflection of youthful exuberance which resides within us all before we get worldly-wise and cynical. Begging us to ask that question, Where's August gone? There is an accompanying video, which can be enjoyed below.
2. Feels like flying: Once again another uplifting song this time featuring a vocal sample. Once more this track oozes good vibes, sunshine & good times. Feels like flying was one of the first tracks completed for the album. The elaborate percussion set and that very distinctive vocal give this track a very different sound.
3. The final solution: Classic hi-energy Breezy-esque dance track which once again features a spoken vocal sample. This track has been kicking about in the Breezy vault for quite sometime, I say track, I meant the vocal sample. Sequences and synths in abundance, giddy drum set. I appear to have found the final solution. Another track to receive some video treatment, you can watch below.
4. Way to go: Another quirky little track with yet another vocal sample. There's something very "Sonic the hedgehog" about this track (minus the vocal) for all you retro gamers out there. Way to go!
5. It was meant to be: Sadly it wasn't meant to be, in as much to say, I had a vocal for this one, but despite several attempts I was unable to get it to sound right. The click-clacking drums and distorted vox are joined by a chugging guitar riff and that grating synth effect. Then there's the choppy piano thrown in, again another different sounding Breezy track.
6. Regret: After that giddy opening to the album, the mood takes a drastic downturn. Regret starts with a grating pad effect, then in comes, what sounds like someone dragging a spoon round a pan, and then a deep brooding bassline. It is with regret that I have nothing more to add.
7. (Do not) Evacuate the building: The good people of weatnu wanted to put together a Techno compilation, to which I decided to contribute. This is it. Techno was an area that I had been known to frequent from time to time, so it was nice to dip my toe in again. There is a link to the Weatnu compilation on the homepage, if you want to enjoy more Techno. I enjoyed working on the track so much it got a video too!!! You can enjoy it below or of course head over to youtube
8. Gilding the lily: A very late entry to the album, although not as late as the previous track, a typical upbeat dancey little number. Once again featuring a little vocal sample. There's a squelchy bassline in there, lots of fizzes & hisses and what sounds like a harmonica. Again a visual has been provided.
9. That was £5.48!: I can't actually remember where the title for this one came from, but this track had that working title from day 1 and it stuck. Anyhoo, this is a funky little number, featuring a load of horns and guess what? A harmonica, I wonder how much it was??
10. Insert: Only once in the whole history of Breezy has an album title also been the title of one of the tracks thereupon said album, until now! This is the finished version of what was, in the production stages, known as "Insert #6". Simplistic moody bass, tappy percussion and a warm synth.
11. High hopes: This is another one of those funky numbers, it starts off innocently enough but then bass kicks in and away we go. High hopes indeed!!!
12. A wing and a prayer: From funky to moody. Dramatic pads, strings and a hip-hop percussion set all thrown into this. A dark stabbing piano adds to the dark tone. This track was on the album at a very early stage and remained pretty much as you hear it now all the way through.
13. Cock-a-hoop: The penultimate track picks up the pace from the last entry. Upbeat, energetic drums, crashing cymbals and an almost euphoric chorus - all very giddy, all very Breezy.
14. Flight mode: I came up with the idea for this on my I-pad whilst on a plane flying to Majorca, basically it's running on minimal. Originally it was for an E.P along with a couple of other tracks, then it was therefore supposed to go onto "Without any further ado" However it didn't make the final cut, as I had saved the track in the E.P folder and forgot all about it.....until now
