EAR CANDY - 2006
In 2006 Breezy began work on what was to be the 9th studio album. Little did we know quite what was in store. During the production the small matter of another child also had to be dealt with. There are hints to this event in titles such as "You make me (feel so good)" and "Chaos theory" to name but two. Despite this, the album itself has a wide range of tracks for the listener to enjoy. Uptempo numbers such as "Man on a mission" & "Optimistically doubtful, vocal experiments on "Spanish inquisition" and "If I could dance with the animals" Crazy techno "Scandanavia" and the meditteranean sounding "An evening on the terrace" Throw in the odd downbeat number such as "Reflections & Unatural consequences and this album really does have a little bit of something for everyone.
The artwork features sweets and it's a blatant reference to candy for the ears!!!

1. Does anybody fancy another?: Track 1 of this album opens with the, now, signature long intro consisting of a vocal and synth combo. It then goes into a deep pulsing bassline. A vocal sample "suck it in, suck it out" runs sporadically throughout the track. A cheeky little starter........... Also subliminally, due to impending birth, this track alludes to having got the chance to go out, you actually want to stay out!.......... hic!
2. Spanish inquisition: Track 2 again utilises another vocal sample. This time it seems like the rantings of a latino female, however, no-one is particularly certain of what is being said and for that matter in what language - thus an inquisition, possibly in Spanish. This track is an uptempo euro-dance style track.

3. Optimistically doubtful: The title is simple an homage to the album "Definitely maybe" by Oasis - however that's where any similarities end. Optimistically doubtful is another uptempo track. It utilises a couple of sequences alongside the a pulsing bassline and some handclaps. The artwork here depicts a petrol tank either half empty of half full.............you decide
4. If I could dance with the animals: Another typical track 4, following from "Dolphins", "Come on (You party dudes)" and "Do the shake and clap" some experimental vocal samples are used to make up this track. This again is another "euro-dance" style offering. The build up intro, sequencer and perky drum loop get the track straight into the vocal chorus. Various synths and layers are added throughout the next verse and back to the chorus again and so forth.
5. Gentle persuasion: As the title may suggest, sinister undertones lurk throughout track 5. Perky percussion with a rumbling bassline. The synths do add optimism to the tracks, but that dark undercurrent hints at the gentle may not be quite so gentle. Perhaps it's more mutual consent than gentle persuasion?
6. Aimless: The first of the slower numbers although not all that slow. Synth pad and a couple of sequences pretty much make up the bulk of this track. Cheeky little percussion section keeps the track moving along. Up to an almost crescendo like finale. Not much else to add here.
7. Feel so good (You make me) : Techno upbeat "feel good" track. Lots going on, including a vox sample which is the title of song. This sample is also edited and used as a part of the track itself, giving a sort of "ee-yuh" effect. Lots of other effects are utilised throughout the track. Synths and sequences and fx are all going off in the background. Hopefully it makes you feel as god as it did me?
8. Reflections: Reflections was created through a real life event. A personal friend and previous colleague unexpectedly took his own life. Quite simply this track was my way of dealing with something up until now I had been fortunate enough to not have to deal with.
9. Chaos theory: The title says everything you could possibly need to know about this track, it has all sorts going on. There's more techno influences on it. The drum & percussion have a drum 'n' bass edge to them. Lots of sequences and keys crashing against one another. The deep up and down bassline and of course the vocal sample "De-de-de-der-de-de-de-de-de"
10. An evening on the terrace: Another foray into guitars, this time a strumming Mediterranean feel. The rest of the track has an almost jazz style to it, a nod back to a couple of tracks on "Broken biscuits" The piano hits that come through about halfway and the melodic bass. But the main feature of the track has to be the guitars, against the aforementioned strum there's an acoustic little riff that just lazily plays the track out. What a lovely evening on the terrace.
11. Man on a mission: A very serious and determined track this one. Single-minded and knows exactly what it is. Beefy bassline with a hi-hat and clap combo. Whirling pads, deep pads and synths that drift in and out of the track. The reverse cymbal adds a nice touch. Has to be one of the album highlights.
12. Scandinavia: Another techno/ drum 'n' bass number here, again lots of jittery loops and riffs, but the main feature of the track is that high pitched warbling melody. That was supposed to an homage to "Epie" by Royksopp and as they were from Scandinavia, the title stayed.
13. Unnatural consequences: Again another downtempo track, a deep pulsing bass. Lots of FX strewn throughout, this track was planned as an experimental "last track" again another nod to "Broken biscuits" but that wasn't the case..........
14. Martin Breeze: Whilst messing about with sounds and effects for the previous song, the vocal for this track was stumbled upon by chance. It sounded, well, like "Martin Breeze", Breezys' true identity. Amazed and slightly freaked out the remainder of the track was built around this one vocal. Again there are some techno elements to the track, a lot of synths and jittery percussion set-up.
